Click for more detail...
3226
Sterling Toddy Ladle with Whalebone Handle. A Georgian sterling silver small toddy ladle with a whalebone handle. The handle is slim, and carved in a twisted pattern. Hall marks inside the bowl of the ladle are worn, so the town of manufacture is not identifiable. However, the maker’s stamp, which is in the middle of the bowl, is quite clear "EM", (E. Morley) and by putting all the marks together, and taking the shapes of the stamps into consideration, the date appears to be London, 1797-98. George III period. Ladle measures 18cm long (7 inches). Handle is 6mm diameter (just under 1/4 inch). Bowl is 5cm wide from edge to lip and 2cm deep (2 inches and 3/4 inch). Handle has a metal cap to the end - it maybe has once been cut-down a bit, although this is pure conjecture on my part. Handle is very slightly loose. Bowl has a scratch under lip on one inside area. This is a very dainty little item.
Circa: 1797-1798
Condition: Very Good - see description
