C7996
NZ Jade Gold Good Luck and Love Bar Brooch. A bar brooch dating from Edwardian times (circa 1901-1910) - made in New Zealand greenstone (nephrite jade), with a gold Bluebird of happiness on one side, and a four leaf lucky clover on the other. Suspended on a gold chain between the two is a greenstone heart. Most unusual design for one of these NZ bar brooches, and very pretty. Greenstone jade is a sacred stone to the New Zealand Maori.
Measures 5.4 cm long and 1.4 cm deep or about 3.5 cm including the suspended heart (2.1/8 inches by about 1/2 inch, or 1.3/8 inches including the heart). Greenstone is bevelled, and the bird is nicely detailed with feathers etc.
Excellent condition.

C8148
Gold Mounted Pig’s Tusk Brooch. A large Edwardian period brooch (circa 1901-1910), made from a pig’s tusk, with the ends mounted in 9ct gold. The centre has a gold shield with the initials M.L.T. engraved on it in flowing script (at least I think that’s what they are - pretty sure about the M and the L, but the T could also be a P). Brooch measures 12 cm across (4.3/4 inches) and about 2.5 cm deep (1 inch). The gold mounts are prettiloy engraved with acanthus scrolls. These brooches made from pigs and boars tusks were very popular here in New Zealand at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. This one is in excellent condition - you can see the scoop out of the tusk where the teeth passed it, and a natural split in the enamel at the rear.
Circa: Circa 1900 -1910
Condition: Excellent
