Japanese Lacquer Calling Card Case. Late 19th to very early 20th century Japanese lacquered card case. It has a small metal applied motif on each side - one one side it is a butterfly, and on the other it is a mythical gilded and bronzed devil figure. Red lacquer work of a house, huts, fences and landscape on one side, and flowers on the other. There is great detail in the lacquer work, but much of it has worn smooth - you can see it holding it against the light where the lines of the details show up. Inside, the inner lip of the case is damaged. It had a cut-out area for you to finger the card to be pulled out - this has broken right across (see photo). Nice speckled gold finish interior. Case measures 10.4 cm by 7.6 cm and 1.7 cm thick (4.1/8 inches by 3 inches and 5/8 inch thick).

Chinese Carved Wood Glove Stretchers. Elegant glove stretchers, late 19th or early 20th century Chinese. Carved with scene of figures in foliage. Stretchers measure 27.25 cm long (10.3/4 inches). Excellent condition.

Oriental Carved Walnut Shell. A good sized Oriental carved walnut shell. The carvings are of an intricate mix of men and animals, with a tiger, a monkey, a snake or dragon and others. Measures 4.8cm (1.7/8 inches) by 4cm (1.1/2 inches). Excellent condition.  

Oriental Carved Walnut with Animals. A carved walnut with tiger and dragon, and small oriental figures. Measures 4.2cm high and the same diameter (1.11/16 inch). Well carved, intricate piece.

Two Lacquered Wood Stands. Two beautiful lacquered Korean wood stands, octagonal shape, like a bowl, standing on crenelated feet. The insides are decorated with picture of stone gates and towers, and Japanese characters. Underneath the smaller bowl is a fan shape with lettering. The decoration is black incised. The larger bowl is 22cm (8.1/2 inches) diameter, and the smaller is 18.5cm (just under 7.1/2 inches diameter. Both are 6cm (just under 2.1/2 inches) high. In very good condition, just a little age wearing to the centre stamped motif inside each bowl.  

Japanese Vintage Lacquered Box. An early 20th century Japanese lacquered box. Plain black lacquered sides and interior. Lid has mottled design to one area, and brick red lacquered flowers on the other. There is the remains of a bird on the mottled sides, mostly worn off. There are a few chips etc. to the body, as is usually the case. Box measures 17.5cm by 12cm and 7.5cm high (7 inches by 4.3/4 inches and 3 inches high). Ex Wagener Museum.  

Japanese Lacquered Table Chest. A small black lacquer table chest or jewelry box - just 15cm high (6 inches). It has engraved brass corners and hinges. The panels of the two doors are inlaid with mother of pearl, and hand decorated with a pattern of leaves, birds and flowers, using the pearl and gold lacquer. The inner two drawers and insides of the doors are painted with metallic lacquer, and also hand painted with foliage. This is a lovely little piece, and is in good sound condition. There is some wear to the paintwork on the right hand front door face, with paint losses, and some spotting to the top of the cabinet. This delightful cabinet would date from the very early 20th century. It is 15cm wide and 8cm deep (6 inches by 3.1/8 inches).

Lacquered Chinese Table Cabinet. A Chinese cabinet with 8 drawers and two door, lacquered in black , with gilded and terracotta floral spray decoration. Probably late Victorian or Edwardian period (circa 1880-1910). It has two diagonal central doors, opening to reveal three pigeon holes, presumably for letters. It has 6 small drawers to either side of the door, one drawer across the too, and a deeper larger drawer to the base. Pretty chased copper hinges and escutcheons (these once may have been silver plated). Cabinet measures 32.5cm high, 23.5cm wide and 13cm deep (12.3/4 inches by 9.1/4 inches by 5 inches). Very sound condition overall, with some dulling and minor losses of lacquer, except for the top, which has patches of pitting and loss of lacquer. One handle is off one of the small drawers. This item came from the Wagener Museum here in Northland, New Zealand, which closed some years ago. Very pretty item.

Horn Beaker, Japan Lacquer Decorated. A little horn beaker, with Japanese red and gold lacquer decoration of a bird, bamboo and foliage. Beaker measures 6.2cm high (2.1/2 inches) and 4.5cm diameter at the top (1.3/4 inches). Some wear to the decoration, but beaker is in excellent condition. Late 19th to early 20th century.

Small Carved Wood Oriental Mask. Small wooden mask, craved in boxwood. Open-mouthed laughing Oriental gentleman with head-dress. Mask measures 5.9 cm by 4.3 cm (2.5/16 inch by 1.11/16 inch). Apart from a chip to the nose, very good condition.

Chinese Comb. A small wooden Chinese comb, with decorative figure shape of smiling Chinese man with fan. Measures 9.5cm long (3.1/4 inches) and 2.75cm deep (1.1/8 inches). A great curiosity item! Excellent condition.

Jade Buddha Pendant. A small pendant (flat backed) with a seated buddha carved on the front. Measures 3.5cm by 1.75cm (1.3/8 inch by 11/16 inch). Excellent condition. Colour is pale aqua green jade.  

Chinese Carved Ivory Round Box. Beautiful work - carved ivory flower and leaves, with crosshatch detailing . The flowers look likes roses, but are probably peony. Box measures 5.5 cm high and 8.8 cm diameter (2.3/16 inch by 3.1/2 inches). Excellent condition, exquisite item.
