Click for more detail... C8677	Two Clarice Cliff Ashets or Platters, Matana. Two pretty ashets, one larger, one smaller. They have a transfer printed pattern of stylized flowers, and handpainted blushing pink band and blue and green bands. The pattern is called "Matana" and carries the Clarice Cliff Newport Pottery mark, with the registration mark 840078, which makes it circa 1940-1950. In fact, one is stamped 45 and the other 47, for 1945 and 1947. The body moulding detail to the edge is the same as was used for the commonly-produced green and cream dinner service. Largest platter measures 31 cm by 24 cm (12 inches by 9.1/2 inches) and the smaller measures 28 cm by 22 cm (11 inches by 8.3/4 inches). Both in excellent condition. This vase is in the Art Deco manner, and appears to have Clarice Cliff’s honeyglaze finish, but carries the old Wilkinsons Royal Staffordshire Pottery mark for the early 20th century. Mould number 280. Many of Wilkinson's shapes wre designed by Clarice Cliff. Hand decorated banding, transfer print design of stylised flowers. Vase measures 16 cm (6.1/4 inches) high. A few little pinpricks in the red bands, but in excellent condition otherwise. What looks a little like staining on the inside rim is actually the glaze effect, where it is thicker, it is more coloured. Richardson & Co ) of Tunstall in the Staffordshire Potteries. This would have been made in the 1930’s, and is in the typical colours of the era, dark apple green, cream, orange and pewter. It is decorated in Charlotte Rhead’s trademark tube lining, and is signed by her on the base. (See photos). In very good condition.
