Chinese Carved Wood Card Case. Treen calling card case, 19th century, made in carved wood - one side has a vase shape, filled with carved trees, buildings and two figures. The other side has a cross shape also filled with carved figures and trees. Case measures 8.5 cm by 4.8 cm and 1.1 cm thick (3.3/8 inches by 1.7/8 inches and just under 1/2 inch thick). Condition is very good - a bit dirty, but no faults.

Small Mother of Pearl Calling Card Case. A ladies’ small calling card case - mother of pearl in lovely cream, pinks and greens. Victorian or Edwardian period (circa approx. 1880-1905). Flip-top lid. Catch works well. Measures 9cm by 5.5cm and 1cm thick (3.1/2 inches by 2.1/4 inches by 3/8 inch thick). Very good condition - one tiny sliver of pearl absent by lid opening on side (see c/u photo) and a small dent in the pearl on the opposite hinge edge (which may be natural). A very pretty item.

Mother of Pearl Calling Card Case. Lovely Victorian card case - made in mother of pearl with contrast triangles of New Zealand paua shell. Concertina card holders inside, with silk lining. Case measures 108 mm x 76 mm x 20 mm (4.1/4 inches by 3 inches by 3/4 inch). Very good condition, a few minor faults: slight loss of shell to a couple of the corners (see photo), and some tears to the card compartments inside. Dates to late 19th century.

Calling Card Case, Mother of Pearl. A Victorian period calling card case - made from Mother of Pearl with a silver insert presentation panel (not yet engraved with anyone’s initials) and ivory inside edges. Still in its original presentation box - beautiful Morocco leather with a crimson silk interior. The card case itself has a purple/blue silk interior, with two pockets of blue card. Once this case would have had a concertina style interior of blue card pockets, but it is all missing except the end two. However, this means that the case can now be used for business cards (our cards are so much bigger than the original calling cards, that the old fittings are too small for today’s use). Card case measures 11cm by 7.75cm by 1.5cm thick (4.1/4 inches by 3 inches by 5/8 inch thick). Excellent condition, except for the inside previously describes. Clasp is good and strong.

Victorian Ivory Calling Card Case & Pencil. Calling card case, made with ivory covers. The front cover has a cut-work silver monogram panel on it, with the initials "E.A.B." engraved in flowery script. Holding the two covers closed together is an ivory pencil which slots into loops fo the covers - it has a turned ivory stem with lead holder at base, and was used for leaving notes on your calling cards. Inside there are royal blue, gilded edge concertina-style card compartments. This item is faulted - the front cover has parted company with the rest - it was only ever held together by the pencil on one side, and a slim piece of card and the first card compartment on the other. The first two compartments are gone, and there are seven remaining. Could be repaired using archive tape or similar. Case measures 108 mm by 74 mm and about 14 mm thick (4.1/4 inches by 2.7/8 inches and 1/2 inch thick). Pencil is about 5 mm diameter and 108 mm long (3/16 inch by 4.1/4 inches). It is in very good condition.

Victorian Ivory Aide Memoir. A little aide memoir, or personal note book - made in ivory, with ivory leaves inside. (You wrote in pencil, and then cleaned it off when the note became no longer needed). Swivel action, with 4 internal leaves and the front and back cover. Measures 5.5 cm by 2.5 cm and 6 mm thick (2 inches by 1 inch and 1/4 inch thick). Excellent condition. Signs of old writing inside.
