C7375
Fine Tortoiseshell and Gold Matchbook Cover An unusual item, circa 1940. A match book cover, made to hold those little books of matches that were so prevalent a while ago. It has a lift-up lid, the book fits inside under a lip, and there is an aperture in the lip for you to strike the match against the striker on the book. Outside has a rose gold disc set into the cover, which is engraved with the initials "S.H.M." in flowing script. Cover measures 6.5cm by 4.75cm and 1.75cm thick (2.1/2 inches by 1.7/8 inches and 11/16 inch thick). Excellent condition, just a few age scuffs on the underside, and a little rough spot on the cover, which may be in the shell.
Just the thing a fashionable lady would carry.
Circa: Circa 1940
Condition: Very Good - see description
