Balance Scales and Assorted Weights. Avery. An old balance scales, by Avery of England. These have been used until recently, and the small assorted unmatched weights were used to weight kitchen measures. Brass tray on one end for the weights, and a metal fixed platform (probably added) to hold a kitchen bowl or similar. Weighs to 2 lb. Item measures 21.5 cm high and about 36.5 cm long (8.1/2 inches by 14.1/4 inches). Apart from the grey tray which doesn’t match, it is in excellent original condition.

Old Cast Iron Scales and Weights. Cast iron balance scales, with tinned tray and 7 graduated iron weights. The brand stamp on the scales is "OK". They measure 21.5 cm high with the tray on, and 30 cm wide (8.1/2 inches by 11.3/4 inches). Weights go from 1/4 oz to 2 lb. The tin tray bowl is battered, but usable, and everything else is in very good vintage condition. Heavy.

Vintage Wooden Plane. A vintage plane, wooden cased, with "saw-handle". Blade is Alex Mathison, Cast Steel.
Plane measures 43.5cm long (17 inches). Very good vintage condition.

Vintage Wooden Woodworking Plane. A handled wooden smoothing plane. Measures 24cm long . Good clean condition, but don’t know how you take it apart. The front handle slots in, and needs to be glued in place (glue has dried out over the years). Still has some shavings inside.

Starrett Co Vintage Steel Rule in Case. Wind up steel rule in case. Maker is Starrett & Co , Athol, Mass. USA. 10 cm diameter case (4 inches).
Has been used, so some scuffing to case and corrosion to chrome on case. Steel rule is in very good condition.

Vintage Wooden Planing Attachment. Actually, I don’t know what this item is at all. It came to us with several wooden planes, and looks like it was also used for planing, but with a very narrow blade. It measures 24.5cm long and 5.5cm wide (9.3/4 inches by 2.1/4 inches). It is 7.5cm high (3 inches). There is a steel 2 part strip inserted into it with a notched cut-out between the two pieces. An angled 1.25cm (1 inch) wide hole runs through the wood from here, like a plane would have. Well made, heavy. Handsome - just don’t know what it is.

Brass Primus Paint Burner, Vintage Primus. A good quality little paint burner, measuring only 16cm (6.1/4 inches) high. Trademark Primus of Sweden. Model No. 630. Makers are B.A. Hjorth & Co, Sweden. Polishes up nicely. Excellent condition.

Brass Faced Pocket Balance Scales. A vintage pocket balance scales, weighing in lbs. Smaller size, measuring 18.5cm long ( 7.1/4 inches) from top of ring to bottom of hook. Face is 3.2cm wide (1.1/4 inches). Brass face. Some distress to paint at rear, but in good, sound condition. Weighs to 25lbs.
 

Edwardian Postal Scales. Postal scales for weighing letters, dating from the Edwardian period, circa 1901-1910. Oak base, with metal scales and four brass weights: 4 oz, 2 oz, 1 oz and 1/2 oz. "Made in England. Guaranteed Accurate". Scales measure 10 cm high, and 20 cm by 11.5 cm (4 inches by 8 inches by 4.1/2 inches). Very good condition - some spotting to metal.

Vintage Kauri Timber Wood Workers Plane. A vintage plane, made in New Zealand kauri. Measures 43cm long (17 inches). Blade is stamped "Alex Mathison & Son. Warranted Cast Steel". Only one part of blade is present (the other section, which bolts to it is absent). Very good condition.

Vintage Metal 66ft Tape Measure, Evans. A vintage metal-cased tape measure - the "dockyard" or builder’s type of measure - very long at 66ft, and made of metal. It measures in inches and feet, and has notations for 16 inch stud centres. Wind-up retraction handle (folding), and clip for a belt or tool apron. US Patent No. 3,141,628 Evans, Elizabeth, NJ, USA. Tape is in very good condition - outside case has some minor corrosion spots, but nothing serious - surface only. Quite heavy. Case measures 110cm square (4.3/8 inch square).

Woodworking Plane, Old Coffin Plane. Made in oak, measures 20cm (8 inches) long. Has a split in the front wood, not enough to go through to bottom. Repaired split in one side. Loose blade. Good clean condition.

Vintage Wooden Smoothing Plane. A vintage wooden plane, stamped with apprentice’s name "Teasdale". Nice condition. I know nothing about the operation of these items, and I can’t get the blade holder out. Don’t want to break anything, so as is. Wood has a few dead borer or woodworm holes. Measures 26cm long (10 inches).

Set of Four Weights, Various. Old weights for your grocer’s scales, or your kitchen scales. 4 oz, 8 oz, 1 lb, 2 lb. The 8 oz and the 1 lb are matching, being weighted brass cased . They are somewhat battered, but genuinely antique. The 4 oz and the 2 lb are both black iron. The 2 lb has "Whitehouse Tipton" stamped on the front. Both it and the 4 oz are commercial weights, and underneath they have their adjustment cavities, with the little one bearing the lead adjustment tablet stamped with a crown, the letter H and 72. The large one has been painted over, but it has the crown and ED, suggesting it is from the reign of King Edward VII. (1901-1910). Great decor items.

Set of Victorian Brass Weights. A set of 5 brass weights, from 1 kilogram to 50 grams. Not quite sure why they are in kilos, as England measured in pounds and ounces - however, they all have Standard stamps, and the 1 kilo has 42 stamps on its sides, and one on the top. Four other types of marks also, underneath. Maybe these are from Continental Europe. The stamps have letters in shields, and the last few are numbers, being 84, 88, 90 and 92. The 500 gram weight has four marks, again letters, then numbers, ending at 92. Underneath are the initials "WR". This weight is quite scarred. The 200 gram weight has 10 marks, ending in 86. Also has WR underneath. The 100 gram weight has only a B mark. Underneath is DS.
The little 59g weight has a hole in the side, and only one stamp. (It weights correctly 50g). Underneath is a monogram of the letters AJ, and "39". Wooden box has a split, which would respond well to gluing and clamping. All weights have lovely feel of their age.
