1509
2 Etchings by David Law, R.S. Late Victorian Two vintage etchings, probably circa late 19th century, titled "On the Thames near Cookham", showing the river with a punt and small sailing boat at a bend with rustic houses in background, and "St. Michael's Mount, Cornwall", which is an interesting scene with storm waves and sailing boats in the bay under the Mount. "An Original Etching by David Law, R.S." Framed in original matching period fram. Each whole measures 26cm by 33.5cm (10.1/4 inches by 13.1/4 inches). Very sepia, and have dirt inside the glass, and a little stain creeping in at the bottom (to the mount only). Cookham is in very good condition, but the other has foxing all over. Lovely original framer’s label on the reverse of Cookham "Boots Chemists Ltd. Picture Framing & Art Department" (quite a departure from a Chemist’s usual activities!). St Michael's Mount has had the backboard replaced.
Circa: Late 19th century
Condition: Used

0353
John Leech Engraving, Hand Coloured, 19C. A 19th century hand-coloured engraving by John Leech entitled " The Two Strings". It depicts a young woman entertaining two young men, the "two strings" to her bow in the marriage stakes . Neither are at all perfect - one is very plump and the other is saturnine with long side whiskers- but she wears an expression of smugness. She knows that she will get a proposal out of at least one of them, and thus be that most economically necessary and respectable of things in the Victorian era - a married woman. In very good condition, with a few spots of foxing in the top centre of the picture. Modern frame and mount: frame is gilded and has figured wood effect band. Mount is pale pink with two rows of gold coloured bands. Measurements: 15 inches (38cm) wide and 12.1/4 inches high (31cm)
Circa: 19th Century
Condition: Excellent
Country of Origin: GB
