An antique ambrotype photo of an elderly woman dressed in the Victorian fashion - frilled white cap, lace collar etc. The little case the photo is mounted in has a pretty stamped velvet piece inside the left cover. The case is in quite good condition - the outside is a little rubbed, and has one small chip mark above the left spine on the front cover The spine is intact inside, but the outside is not, so although it is still hinged, it is a little loose. The ambrotype itself is in generally good condition, with only an area of crackle and black loss to the backing behind her left and right forearms. Measures (closed) 3.1/4 inches wide x 3.5/8 inches high x 1/2 inch thick. (8.5cm x 9.25cm x 1.25cm thick). |
