E10379

Pair of Victorian Brass Candlesticks. Good pair of late 19th century Victorian period brass candlesticks. They both have ejectors, but one is missing its flat pusher cap underneath. Neither appear to be working though - probably years of accumulating wax has seized them, but may come right with lots of very hot water. They measure 22.5 cm high, and the bases are 9 cm square. Very good condition.
Circa: Late 19th Century
Condition: Used

E10532

Victorian Brass Boot Spill Holder. Victorian mantel ornament - a ladies' brass boot, with a cylinder behind it to hold spills. (Spills were waxed tapers or similar - you would light one of these from the fire in the grate below the mantel, and use it to light your candles, or pipe, cigarette, cigar etc. These were in common use before the invention of friction matches). An elegant survivor from the mid to late 1800s. Measurement: 7.7 cm high and 9 cm wide. Excellent condition.
Circa: Mid to late 1800s

Click for more detail...

5134

Copper Crested Dish, Italian. Don’t really know what this is - looks like a sort of chafing dish, but has no liner. It is made in copper, with three brass paw feet, and a further brass paw which acts as an opener for the lid. There is a screw-in fitting to rear, presumably where a handle was fitted.
The hinged lid has a gadrooned edge, and the lid of the dish has a crest engraved into the surface. Two eagles with lions bodies flanking and supporting a crowned shield. Underneath is stamped "Made in Italy".
Item measures 16 cm diameter and about 6.5 cm high (not including the paw lid opener) - or, in inches, 6.1/4 inches diameter and about 2.1/2 inches high.
Basically in very good condition - a bit dirty.
Circa: Early half of 20th Century
Condition: Very Good - See Description
