C14654

Chatelaine, Four Pieces plus Belt Hook, American Silver Unusual late 1800s chatelaine, sterling silver with four components, all of which have the matching engraved pattern of acanthus scrolls, and blank initials panels. There is a large locket, on which the front slides away to reveal a mirror; next is a short tubes with a flip-lid catch and a slide slit on one side and an inner cap which was probably for a lipstick. Next is a little purse, which opens to reveal a gilded interior with a clip on either side to hold items (presumably stamps) in place. Last item is a bit of a mystery - long tube, with a domed end which can be pressed in. Tube opens further up, but nothing to indicate the purpose of the top. Tube is 8.1 cm long and just under 1 cm diameter. the lipstick tube is 3.3 cm long and 1.2 cm diameter. Locket is 4.1 cm diameter, and the purse measures 3 cm by 3.4 cm. Sterling stamp plus maker's mark F & B on all items except the belt hook, which has a mark of W.Co on an arrow, with the Sterling mark. The F & B mark is either for Foster & Bailey of Providence, RI, USA, circa 1878 - 1898, or their successor Theodore W. Foster & Brothers. The W. Co mark is Webster Company - North Attleboro, MA, USA founded in 1869 by George K. Webster. All in very good condition. There is a very minor dent on the locket, and there is a little bit of spare chain from the belt hook. Total length is 20 cm. TW: 55 g.

Circa: Late 1800s

E10810

Sapphire and Diamond Antique Bracelet. Sapphire and diamond-mounted bracelet with a row of 7 graduated round old mine-cut diamonds and 6 round sapphires in claw settings on an articulated link bracelet. The diamonds are estimated to total 1.50 carats, with quality assessed as Good to Fair old make, D-H colour and SI2-I3 clarity. The sapphires are cushion and round mixed cut, estimated to total 1.40 carats, of good quality, medium slightly greyish blue colour, very true royal blue - a lovely colour. The mount is handmade in 9ct gold and silver. Tongue clasp and safety clips. Bracelet is curved, but total length would be approx. 170 mm. It is 5 mm wide at the centre of the stones. The linked area is 2.5 mm wide. It is important on a bracelet of this style that you do not squeeze the curved section, as this can cause stones to pop out.
We have a valuation for this lovely bracelet, which gives a secondhand retail market value of NZ$3500.00 and a new comparison value of NZ$5800.00.
(Valuations are supplied to the purchaser).

Click for more detail...

C15648

Victorian Pink Shell Cameo Brooch, Gold Mount. Oval late 1800s cameo, pink shell, high relief carving of a woman with feathers in her hair. Etruscan style mount. There is a hallmark on the hook, looks like the French import mark for Seurre, or the leaf mark for 585 gold (14 carat). No other marks that I can see except a V between two dots which is probably the maker's mark - the gold around the raised area of the mount, surrounding the shell is more like a tarnished silver colour, but my gold tester reads it all as between 14 carat and 18 carat. Brooch measures 3.3 cm by 2.7 cm. Very good condition, very pretty unusual colour.
