C16697

Pair of Rouge Pots and Hair Pin Tidy, Silver Tops. Dressing table set, 3 pieces: two crystal rouge or ring pots with silver lids, and rectangular lidded pot - probably a hair pin tidy. The tops have a lovely engraved pattern - no silver marks, although they could be Raj silver. Might also be silver plate, but quite light. Lots of scuff wear on bottoms of pots - denoting a good old age. Both rouge pots are in very good condition, the hair tidy has a significant chip on the crystal rim. Little pots measure 4 cm high and 4.2 cm diameter. Rectangular pot measures 9 cm wide by 5.8 cm deep and 3.9 cm high. They would date around late 19th century to 1900, and would have come out of a ladies' dressing case.
Circa: Circa 1900

E10923

Indian Silver Salt Pepper and Mustard Set. Small Raj silver 3 piece condiment set - hinged-lid mustard pot, pepper pot and open salt. Embossed patterns to the bodies - the mustard and the salt both have scenes of villages and palm trees, and the pepper has scrolls and flowers. All have the same legs, finials and shape. The pepper has a bung underneath that unscrews for filling. Mustard measures 5.7 cm high with a body 4.4 cm diameter. The pepper is 5.1 cm high and 3.8 cm diameter, and the salt is 3 cm high and 4.1 cm diameter. Both Mustard and salt have "8." impressed underneath (possibly 800 silver), and the pepper has something very faint and unreadable stamped around the underneath stopper. Very good condition. No liners, made without them.

Click for more detail...

C14068

Old Sheffield Plate Decanter Coaster. OSP (Old Sheffield Plate) coaster - large enough for a decanter, and could also be used for a modern bottle. Gadrooned edge, turned wooden base. Measures 4.5 cm high by 15.5 cm diameter. Copper bleed showing on the high points, mainly around the top inside rim. Circa early to mid 19th century. (Old Sheffield plate was the forerunner to modern day silver plate - it was a sandwich of two sheets of either sterling silver or German silver, fused with a sheet of copper between them. Edges were often hidden by applied bands of decoration. The "bleed" is the copper showing through the silver when years of polishing wore away the silver sheet. Silver plate was invented in the 1840s, and after that OSP lost favour as plating is cheaper to manufacture).
Circa: Early to Mid 19th Century
